STRONGCOLOGY

(noun): /strôNG/ˈkäləjē/

  1. bringing strength to oncology

  2. having the power to move heavy weights or perform other physically demanding tasks throughout the diagnosis and treatment of cancer

  • STRONGCOLOGY was developed in the summer of 2015, while co-founder, Chris, was undergoing treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a very aggressive and sudden onset form of leukemia. Having been a personal trainer and endurance athlete for over 15 years at the time, being immunocompromised made it difficult for Chris to exercise in his usual fashion.

While hospitalized, his workouts no longer consisted of heavy strength days or 60-70 mile running or biking weeks.  At times, the only energy he could muster was to walk one lap around the nurses’ station (1/31 of a mile).  However, as his strength improved through his regimen of body weight and band-based exercises he completed in his hospital room, so did his fatigue levels.  He realized this easily modified program was helping improve his quality of life.

Now completely healthy and appreciative of life and the value health holds, Chris and wife and fellow co-founder, Alicia, attempt to give back to the cancer community through education, speaking engagements and their personal training capabilities.

  • STRONGCOLOGY is an app-based strength, mobility and endurance program using exercise bands and body weight to accommodate patients with cancer in every aspect of treatment from diagnosis through survivorship.  Using a fatigue scale to determine the number of exercises performed daily, along with the ability to choose the exercises, this program is achievable as well as enjoyable. Developed by Chris and Alicia, experienced personal trainers/physical therapists, this program has been proven to improve cancer related fatigue by 70%.

  • “I really like having a schedule to follow. I feel less tired. I was even able to complete a difficult hike this week.” - F.B.

“These exercises are the right amount of work.  They are achievable and the highlight of my day.” - D.R.

“I felt great after the walk.  I like the mobility work. My family has even done the workouts with me.” - D.B.
